Justified

The non-big four networks have been efforting for years to develop shows that can challenge the big boys. I think they are turning the corner. Justified is FX’s latest such product. It is the story of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, (Timothy Olyphant). He is a kind of anti-hero, who does good deeds, but in a not so nice way. The Raylan Givens character was created by Elmore Leonard, (Get Shorty and Out of Sight). The show follows Givens who has recently been re-assigned to Kentucky, his old stomping grounds, after a mishap in Miami. Olyphant is his usual self, he says little, but what is said has weight. He gets more mileage from his facial expressions and cold awkward stares; that reflect the anger underneath his cool demeanor. The supporting cast is excellent with many faces you will recognize. It is a beautifully shot show and the music is spot on for the look and feel of the show. It’s gritty, fast paced, sexy and often funny, typical of Leonard writing. If you’re looking for something different than what the big networks are offering, check out Justified Tuesdays at 10PM on FX. I know my DVR is already set.

What's New in Home Technology?

Control the Universe with Universal Remote Control's KP-4000 In-wall Controller:

Universal remote control will soon be releasing the KP-4000 in-wall touch screen controller. The KP will let you have full control over your home lighting system, zoned audio system, and home theater system(s). Over the past few months Universal Remote Control has released some game changing products like the MX-6000 two way hand held touch screen remote and the MX-5000 wand style touch screen remote. All three of these new products will give you access to RSS feeds like weather, stocks, traffic and more right on the screen of the remote control. We are very excited about the new product line up and will continue testing them in our houses.

Reducing our carbon footprint one theater at a time with the Runco Q750d LED Projector:

Recently Runco released their first LED based projector. Prior to this their entire projector lineup was made up of DLP light engines. DLP continues to offer a superior picture quality and color accuracy over other projection formats like LCD and DiLA but LED may soon become a new standard for projection technology.

The benefits of an LED based DLP engine over the traditional color wheel DLP engine are

Efficiency (LED based projectors use 70% less power than traditional DLP)
No bulbs to change- average life span of the LED engine is about 50,000 hours vs. 2000 hours before needing a bulb change

Currently the only downside that we see is the screen size- the Q750d is recommended for use with a screen no larger than 108” wide. The LED technology (hopefully) will trickle down into the rest of the projector lineup soon and once that happens we can incorporate a larger 2:35:1 screen into the design.

DirecTV Software Update

DirecTV recently released a software update for their HR20, HR21, HR22, and the HR23 high definition DVR satellite receivers. Prior to this update you may have experienced an annoying lag when changing channels or surfing through the on screen guide. With this new software update, all that will go away and you should have a more enjoyable TV watching adventure.

Here's how to perform the update:

Press and hold the info button, this will give you access to see the current software version. (you can use the Universal Remote control you already have or the DirecTV remote)
The software version you should have is X3A8
If this is not the version you have, pull the power cord out of the back of the unit, let it sit unplugged for 15 minutes (not 15 seconds) then plug it back in.
Doing this will force the new software to be loaded onto the receiver.
